Whether it's with a pen, a microphone or a camera, you have a story to tell. And we want to hear it. Once again, St. Thomas University is hosting the Atlantic Student Journalism Awards to recognize and encourage emerging young talent. The competition is open to students attending Grades 11 and 12 at any high school in Atlantic Canada or New England. The winning student will receive $1,500 in cash, and a $1,500 credit for tuition fees if he or she later enrolls in the journalism programme at St. Thomas. There will also be a second prize of $500.
HERE'S THE SCOOP Our goal is to make it as easy as possible to enter the competition. There are no entry fees, no red tape. Students may submit up to three journalistic stories for evaluation by a panel of professional journalists.
High school students can submit either print, radio or television stories. All entries must be journalistic and based on fact. It is not necessary for these entries to have been published in a school newspaper or broadcast. They can be of any length. For print stories, only typed submissions will be accepted. To enter the ASJAs, you will need to make two copies of your print or broadcast story and mail it to the address below. Below, you will also find an entry form. Please print out the form, fill it out, and include it with your entry. The deadline for all submissions is March 31, 2010 (postmark). Please note that we cannot accept entries by e-mail and we cannot return material sent to us. (Please make sure you keep copies for yourself!) If you have any questions, send an e-mail to Jacqueline Cormier at jcormier@stu.ca.
